LT1 catted Y pipe

Here's the deal, I have some Pypes Cat's that measure 7 in long, have 3 inch openings, and the diameter of the cat itself is about 4 inches.

I have a 96 Formula with Hooker Longtubes, off road y pipe, and a GMMG. I basically just want the cats to mellow out the sound a bit. I have heard GMMG's with cats and they still sound MEAN but yet are a little more refined.

I just got back from the local muffler shop and he said he can't weld in the cats due to the BMR torque arm mount that is in the way. The passenger side is not a problem but on the driver side the mount is VERY close to the y pipe.

I looked at it and I THINK it can be done but am not for sure.

Basically, what are you guys running in the form of a catted y pipe for a LT1??

I am running the Pypes mini-cats. The drivers side was tight, but it did work around the stock torque arm and now it works around my Spohn crossmember mounted torque arm with the driveshaft loop. Between the floor pan, the fuel/brake lines, and the torque arm, it is not an easy fit.

Do you ever get any rattling or it hitting the floorpan?? The guy at the local shop didn't even want to consider it and he wanted to cut off some of my collector to get it to fit, I just kinda looked at him and was like ,"no thanks".

When I had the stock torque arm, the cat did rub and bang a little on it. I band-aided it by wrapping that portion with some header wrap as I had the Spohn arm sitting in a box in the garage waiting to get installed. It only banged though under hard acceleration and wasn't unbearable, but it was noticable.

Does it hit now with the spohn torque arm?? I guess I should mention that I have the BMR torque arm relocation mount also.

No, it doesn't even come close now.

I have the catted y-pipe from Kooks, and it cleared VERY nicely. Cost me a bit, but worth it IMO.
