Question Installing Long tube headers

1994 Camaro Z28

Alright i know i am going to get yelled at but ive been looking everywhere for step by step instruction with pictures to install them. I am planning on buying pacesetter long tube headers next month and i want to get everything ready by then. First off when i buy them do i have to get anything else besides the gaskets? I guy who had the car before be got new exhaust with a wider Y pipe. Am i going to need any other pipes, etc? I read a few thread and guys saying they just cut there pipes, etc. I dont really want to cut anything. I simply just want to use all my same exhaust parts except the addition of the long tube headers.. Is that possible? Then i was wondering if any has instructions possibly with pictures to make it easier on me.. Thanks a lot!

You'll need a new y-pipe to use longtubes. The stock one simply will not work.

Its very easy to do but can take time depending how mechanically inclined you are. You will need the y pipe to go with the headers, felpro 1074 gaskets, arp bolts, nice 3" band clamps, and a couple cans of pb blaster. If your doing them on the ground you will want to get the front of the car up the air a good amount so you tilt the headers straight up. Basic hand tools is really all you need to get the job done. You will have to take off your alt, starter, steering knuckle, and power steering pump to start. Soak the crap out of the y pipe to manifold bolts a couple times. Pull off the old manifolds and clean up the gasket surface on the head and install the headers. I personally put the drivers side in the bottom and passenger from the top with the ease of unbolting the motor mount and jacking up the motor and the header slipped right into place. Good luck!

Assume you mean the Felpro 1470. The 1074 is a head gasket.

Yep sorry 1470s i dont know why i was thinking 1074 for some reason. Stay away from the coppers as they suck and leak like crazy not to mention they were doable the price of the 1470s or 5903s i bought afterwards.

Re: Installing Long tube headers

I had much better luck with aluminum gaskets. As soon as you have a header bolt back out a little the Fel-pro's will blow right thru.

Invest in band clamps for the header/y-pipe/cat-back connections. Well worth every penny.

Amazing how experience differs.... I've had the Mr. Gasket Ultra Seal copper gaskets on my engine (AS&M headers) for 11 years with no leaks.
