Installing Headers

Well my Pacesetter Long tubes and y-pipe came yesterday and im very excited to say the least. So Sunday my buddy is coming over and we will go ahead and get them put on. Is there any tips any of you guys could give me just to let me know what im getting in to? Also what is this I hear about re-routing the spark plug wires when installing these, I just changed my entire optispark including the wires 500 miles ago, so that shouldnt be a concern to replace them. I bought the emission style headers as well Is there any difference in performance between emission headers and non emission?Any info would be great!

Hmmm...getting the y-pipe off was the absolute worst part for me. Since you have a single cat car, you should have an easier time with it. Remove the temperature sending unit first, or you will destroy it. Alot of guys seem to have trouble getting the dipstick in and out, but mine was a cinch. As far as spark plug wires i don't know. I just put heat shields on the boots closest to the primaries and I haven't had a problem yet (I don't race my car or drive it for long periods of time either). Know that you'll have to get the car almost two feet off the ground to get the headers in, so be prepared for that. In closing- Good luck! You'll need it.

yea it was a PITA..... temp sending unit...remove that first... its ont he drivers side right near the plugs...i destroyed it had to buy a new one.... have a stable ground that is flat and level because u are goingto have to raise that 3500lbs pig to the sky... i ended up towing to my work where thre is a lift and finishedthe job... use zipties to seperate the plugs from the primaries. drivers side goes in from the top.... and passenger side from the bottem...

I made 2 guides for the header bolts. I cut a bic pen in half and used it to hold the headers in place while i started bolts on each end. I had a bitch with the sealant and had to do it twice since i made such a mess. The pens works great and kept the sealant on the surface instead of in the exhaust. I think you should pull the starter and you may also need to jack the engine up if they don't go right in. I also used electrical tape to keep from scratching the headers but besure to remove all of it when your done. I also replaced O2's 2 weeks later and alls good. Last thing you want to get the head surface totally clean or you will have leaks.

I did not use sealant... no leaks.

No difference in performance between the two.
