I need to reduce by 2 db

Hey guys this isn't for my camaro, its my Durango.

I have a 2000 5.9 R/t Durango thats straight piped with just the cat left on it. I had to get it inspected today and it was too loud

The measured it at 97db and I can only be 95db.

Is that a big difference??

What muffler would reduce it down to the 95 while no being too quiet.

Yeah If you have straight pipe and you rank only 98 dbs, wow.
Just about any muffler would drop it by about 10-30 dbs. Its going to muffle the high pitch sound which is what tips the scale.

There's plenty of shady ways around this you would think. I know my car has a different rumble depending on temp outside. Maybe you could go on a warmer or colder day and not have to change anything. Something else that I wouldn't recommend all the time but might work, if it does I would just do it outside the checking station, but once my car started missing it isn't as loud as when it's just tuned up, so maybe unplug a wire. All shady options that may or may not work.

If all you want to do is pass emissions, just get some of those cheap cones to put in the exhaust for the test. Once the test is over, just pull 'em back out. IMO almost any mostly stock street vehicle sounds like **** completely straight piped, so I would invest in some mufflers.

Put on a turndown at the exhaust tip. Direct the sound downwards. That's an easy $20 fix.

As for the other suggestions, I'm partial to the Hooker Aerochamber. It's a 600 cfm muffler that works great. I've put one on my V8 Grand Cherokee and now it sounds like a real V8 instead of a tin can with emphysema. Unfortunately now my wife likes my Jeep so well that I have a hard time convincing her to drive the minivan.
