Re: Heat Shield Removal and Reinstall

Finally got the heat shields reinstalled. You can use a
⁵/³²" drill bit and #10 drive rivets. Closer to recommended hole size would be a #27 drill bit, but we got close enough.

The tabs took a ³/¹⁶" stainless steel blind rivet (pop rivet). I should be ready to install these, with 2022 Remflex exhaust manifold gaskets on my next days off cycle. I chose them over felpro 1406 due to their crush/sealing attributes.

Nicest looking set of manifolds, ever.

Haha, thanks, not bad for factory restoration. Took me awhile to get them ready, having to spec out the proper fasteners. Should seal up nicely and correct my fuel rich condition.

I have new AC Delco O² sensors, but I'm thinking of running my old ones for a few thermal cycles as a caution of any loose ceramic coating fouling out the new ones. Once they've cooked a bit and blown out all the particulates, was gonna install the new O² sensors.

Thoughts?

I have also heard of this issue. I just passed 500 miles on my new build with fresh headers and because of the ecu swap, had to use a new wide band o2. So far I am still getting good readings on the o2. I’d say play it safe since you have the option if you believe the old sensors were functioning.

That's true, having something in there for a few thermal cycles won't matter much I guess, cause the fuel trims will re-adjust I'd imagine when I install the new O2s.
