Headers
Headers
I have a stock 97 z28 and I want to get coated pacesetter longtubes and a borla catback for it. I live on long island new york so I need to pass emissions so im going to get the headers with emissions. If I could I would like to just get the ory pipe with no cats. Im not sure if I will be able to pass inspection with no cats I think they just plug it in and there is no visual check so would i be able to pass with no cats? Would you recommend I get the pacesetter y pipe? I don't really understand the AIR and EGR
so what do I have to do when installing the headers. Also what is everything I will need for installation? Thanks

My catalytic converter has bolt-on flanges on both sides, so when its time for emission testing i unbolt the off road(straight) pipe and rebolt the cat back on. My car has passed without the cat on but one year failed because the guy actually did a visual test. So now every year, i just bolt it back on and use an RTV sealant on the flanges, to prevent exhaust leaks. I did run into ground clearance issues going over speed bumps but a cut of grinder and a drill press solved that problem.

Yes, they can be put into the y-pipe. You will need a cat smaller in length to get it to fit on the drivers side, but it is possible. After the headers are installed, unless you have locking header bolts, you are going to want to periodically run a wrench over the bolts to make sure they are all tight and haven't loosened at all.
