I would do the MAC mid-length headers personally.

Conveniently, there is an entire forum dedicated to Exhaust!

Chances are a mod(erator) will move this on your behalf, so don't get shocked when that happens .

As far as your question on which headers to get, in my "personal opinion", for an LS1 which A) comes with "decent" exhaust manifolds from the factory, and B) has such high RPM capabilities ... if you're looking to upgrade the exhaust, I wouldn't stop at shorties or mids, I'd get LT's (actually, I DID get LT's ). They're dyno proven to gain at least ~15 - 20 HP at the rear wheels, if not more (especially if you get a tune along with the headers).

Pacesetters are probably the best "bang-for-the-buck" header available ... their price is cheap, and they're supposed to be pretty decent quality, considering the price. My friend put a set on his LT1, and they seemed like good quality when I saw them before he put them in .

If budget/price isn't an issue, then you can start looking up the scale at Jet Hots, Hookers (both coated) or higher up to Kooks or QTP's (stainless).

Check out the Supporting Vendor Index (it's listed near the top of every page on this site) ... I bought my Jet Hots through Custom SSI, and their price is VERY competitive. Other vendors carry a wider selection though, so shop around a little (again, depending on your budget, etc.).

Best of luck with your purchase, and welcome aboard .

you can keep cats. you'll need a new y pipe with the lt's so you can either find a catted one or have a shop install a pair. Of course if you need to pass smog you'll have to find someone that knows what you can get away with. I think there are a couple emissions freindly LT setups out there though.

only if you have emissions checks in your area.

would have been some good information to give us in the beginning.

basically anything that moves the cats is technically illegal.

so if emissions are strict where you are...shorties are about your only choice. unfortunatly, for the $400 or so that they cost...you'll be lucky to see 10hp

Fortunately, for the LS1 setups, there is a catted y-pipe that is offered along with the Pacesetter longtubes.

The big complaint I have heard about the SLP long tubes is ground clearance.

Do you have a link to that? I've looked around for a catted Y for the Pacesetters myself but haven't found anything.
