gutting the CAT

Ok, i have a 94 T/A and i already put the slp loudmouth cat back exhast on it...i was kicking around the idea of gutting the cat since i already hacked it off to see if it was plugged (long story) But the thing is, the loud mouth ehxuast replaces the muffler with just a resonator...so gutting the cat would make it pretty much straight pipes lol. im not sure if this is such a good idea considering the loss of back pressure and what not, not to mention the sheer loudness of it, what do u guys think?

I say leave the cat on the car intact. The loudmouth sounds terrible with out a cat.

i think it's one of the worst ideas you could do. your system needs backpressure for low end torque. you are also emitting noxious fumes into the atmosphere. you will also gain nothing by doing this.

i run a 383 stroker with 2otL exhaust and i have cats. they rear 02 sensors dont do anything but i still have cats.

I wouldn't worry about the backpressure issue. Soundwise, however, it will sound terrible in my opinion. I say leave the cat alone, it isn't hurting anything having it there.

Thats a myth, your system does NOT need backpressure backpressure is horrible for low end torque and horsepower. Your system needs velocity which is created by smaller pipes which as a side effect makes backpressure. Gutting the cat will cause a slight power loss because of increased turbulence, not loss of backpressure. If you gut the cat weld a testpipe inside the cat and you will see a gain.

Not a good idea imo, considering the obnoxious fumes and the emissions going skyhigh.Better to be clean, mean and green imo.

I tell you this be true!

You lose the effect on here but say it in an Arabic or Hindi accent and you'll get it.

go ahead, remove the back pressure and listen to all the new sounds...like backfiring...

have fun

Just get a high flow cat Like I did. Lets keep the earth and the air clean. Your kids and grand kids have to grow up here.

sorry to get off topic i cant believe some of u guys are worried about (globalwarming) dont gut the cat because of the sound! if car emisions were the reason for gw then why does mars have gw so so your research before u go blabbing and not research on tv the biggest green house gas is watervaper and when the ocean warms up 1* it releases mega tons of co2. if u track solar flares and gw they coinside perfectly anyways sorry for ranting i just hate misiformed people trying to mislead others

i have no cats. i guess someone forgot to tell my car to make weird sounds and backfire backpressure is old school thinking. the goal at wot is zero backpressure. did you ever notice built race cars even with lsx's run open header no problem!?!

LOUD AND PROUD!!!

LONG FKN screwdriver and a hammer.. ... I recently deleted my cats.. LT, ORY and Borla No Plate.. It noticed a small TQ increase.

On a stock manifold style, you'll notice it a little more. slight volume increase and a slight increase in rasp.
