Gutting a Borla Muffler on a 97 Z28
I have a 1997 Camaro Z28 with just a borla muffler (dual outlet) Everything thing else is stock... It is decently loud, but i want louder... What would happen if i took apart the muffler and gutted it out? would it sound good/bad? Loud? would i past emissions? Then again i don't know how to actually gut a muffler, but i was just doing some brain storming, cuz i don't have alot of extra money to spend on new exhaust.
Most of the supporting vendors sell them, here is the general idea of what they do. http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php The standard cutout sells for 30 bucks. If you want an electric cutout on top of that, it will add around another 150. I would definitely do a cutout versus destroying a Borla muffler which is an expensive piece.
Yeah man, either do the cutout or just get straight pipe welded in place of the muffler. It makes no sense to gut the muffler, you'd just have one big open chamber with no real direction for the exhaust gases to go. But...isn't an open plate on the Borla essentially a cutout?
