ground clearance duals
hey, i have my duals tacked up, what do you guys think about this ground clearance? i measured it at 2 13/16's". any one have tight clearance like this? i am thinking about cutting my floor board and going on top of it. opinions?

Wow, that's not much clearance. I put a 3" dual exhaust on my 70 SS396 Camaro and I have a full can of clearance under the mufflers. I still scrape my headers on speed bumps but the mufflers are closer to the rear axle so they've never hit anything.
Yeah dude thats reallllly low, I can almost fit a soda can underneath my collectors its really close and I have problems with some speed bumps, but the speed bumps here are ungodly huge I swear....
yeah, it isn't really a street car, its my drag car that i am putting on the street so i can drive it every once in a while. the big test is when i winch it on the trailer. if it doesn't scrape when it gets pulled up its staying. i am used to driving lowered cars and such so i usually avoid speed bumps. i do that with my truck just out of habit 
i tried to scrape it when i drove up the curb to my driveway and it didn't scrape at all. the old exhaust i had on the car used to scrape on the way up, and that one was fine. my old roomates sebring use to scrape on my driveway, so i figure mine might be ok for how often it will be on the street. either way, i welded it up earlier today, i will try to get some pictures of it up.

here it is, there is no crossover pipe; i am undecided about whether or not i will add the h-pipe. if i do it will be between the ds loop and the tranny crossmember. any one know how to notch 3" tubing correctly? my notcher only goes to 2", i guess i could cut a hole the general size with a chop saw or angle grinder, and cut the cross tube with a drill press and hole saw. here they are, i have never welded exhaust tube before so some of the welds are pretty darn scary looking 
my exhaust pipes touch the torque arm crossmember in one place and the floor pan in another. there are no rattles. is this ok? should i lower it about a half inch? i haven't heard any rattles, but i don't want any vibrations to set off the knock sensor. i had heat wrap for the exhaust pipes that are close to the fuel lines, i just need to pick up some clamps, that and i have the band style exhaust clamps coming in the mail for where the collector meets the pipe





that and i hope spiral flo's are reversible, i have my with the sledged end going over the exhaust pipe rather than the other way around

yeah i think 2.5 would be fine for the way it is now, but i figure i would rather just buy an exhaust set up once, whatever goes in this thing next will be 700whp. gigantic surprise, i was able to drive the car up the trailer without scraping. my old exhaust scraped everytime (there is actually wood ripped off the deck from the old exhaust
) i can't beleive there have been no scrapes. must be the roads here in AZ, they are beautiful. it could also be the way the car has only driven out of the driveway, on my trailer, off it, back on the trailer, and back in the garage (alignment shop didn't want to touch my car when they saw it trailered in)

Here's you an idea to help protect the fuel lines, you can see part of the shield I made for mine in the top of this pic, its from the driver side looking towards the middle. But I took a piece of sheet metal and bent it up and screwed it to the hollow part of the floor pan...if you look right where the floor pan has a "step" in it you'll notice a good hollow part to screw it to.

Here's another pic with it in there, you can see part of the sheidl on the left hand side.

FYI, this is all the clearence I have and it never scrapes unless its a huge speed bump, then I just go around or turn around.

I did the same heat shielding on mine, too ^^^^...I've also got Kooks headers which really tuck everything up nice and high...I have 4" clearance at the minimum with 3" TDs and an X-pipe going thru the dip in the Spohn TA, and with the 28" M/Ts I haven't scraped a thing...
