Exhaust System From headers to exhaust tips

got my car back with cut out

got my car back with cut out

I just got car back tonight and opened and closed the cut out and noticed that the cut out is leaking are they supposed to or are do they seal tight??

They all leak... Unless they actually drop your exhaust down, there's no way to get the weld all the way across the top.

I'm not sure what exactly a cutout's exit looks like, but maybe you could get a header collector gasket to seal it up.

It should use a standard collecter flange gasket, but don't be suprised if it still leaks even with a good gasket. Generally they weld it in without dropping the entire exhaust, so there will be a hole in the top where the cutout mates with the I-pipe because the body gets in the way of the welder.

Put some aluminum foil around it and use a cheap hose clamp. I used a 1 foot piece and folded it up to about 3/8 of and inch and no leaks.

I took mine to a local shop and had the guy install my cut-out. He welded the entire cut-out in place without dropping the exhaust.. he used a mirror to weld over the top. It never leaked.

Same here. Although I have used the aluminum foil trick for a different spot in the exhaust system. That works too.
