Flowmasters, are they worth it?

Have a 91 rs with built 383 and want to run true duals and dump them before rear axle, I like the way flowmasters sound but do they really perform?
Was checking out moroso spiral flow and dynomax bullets. Which would be my best bang for the buck and which would sound the best/perform? Any suggestions would help........thanks Nick.

Flowmasters are more restrictive, take a look at cut open one and you will see the airflow gets really restricted. I have a magnaflow and i love it. It sounds great at WOT!

I'm sure the restriction probably only translates to a couple of horsepower. A negligible loss at best.

You're not going to notice a "more" restrictive muffler unless it's completely capped off.

The Flowmasters are fine.

NASCAR, pickup trucks, country music, flowmasters... suck...
There are too many well designed mufflers out there to buy a flowbastard.

Yeah, my Flowmaster only went 11.30's on 1.7 60's, put down 440rwhp on 5-7lbs of boost

Stay away, they're junk

correct me if im wrong but doesnt flowmaster say that theyre designed to flow almost if not just as good as most competitors and the crap on the inside is just for the "flowmaster"s distinct sound, and if flow is that big of a deal to you go with the single chambered race muffler, they sound pretty good if you ask me

Yeah now you racers have me thinking that I should have changed my Flowmaster out for a "Better" muffler.

Hell, that change alone probably could have gotten me low 10's.

I want someone to show me some of these restrictive flowmaster dyno numbers. Ive heard how restrictive they are too many times by someone else who was told how restrictive they are. Just because you cant see through them doesnt make them restrictive, Flow master builds all types of performance mufflers, even the outlaw series that you can see straight through. They are called chambers and the reason they are there is so you can get the sound you want.I really like the Bad Mother [edit] sound i get from mine and if i lose .3 horsepower i will just make it up with my throttle body bypass crap. If your trying to get in the 10's or faster get some cut outs, problem solved.

And you are basing this off of what? Your car cannot run any quicker than a 13.5 AT BEST yet you are in here providing information on a muffler??

Carry on.

Low 11's @ 120+ with a Flowmaster - more in the car. Take it for what it is.

Show me, im tired of hearing ive seen. SHOW ME. Im running mid 12's now so what your telling me is if i get brand X i will be in the 11's. Im looking at 2 people who have flowamsters right now and arent seeing these problems that you are referring to. Its all a matter of opinion. are some mufflers more restrictive, sure. But they are not made for high horsepower applications. They are made to get the noise down. You know what
[edit] it
Buy what you want to.
Mightymouse383 you have touched that sensitive nerve on here. I like my flowmasters and wont be trading them any time soon.

I bet if i go over to the mustang boards all i will here is how much camaros suck! but you know what i have one and i will dust there *** off in my sucky camaro with my ****ty flowmasters. thats just how it is on the internet.

If one muffler allows two more horsepower than another, then dammit I'm buying the +2 hp muffler. All you guys running 11's and 12's are not doing so because of your flowmaster, your doing it because you've spent a fortune on your car and it's making tons of power.

What flows BEST is a straight piece of pipe. If you look at the inside of a flowmaster, it looks like a freaking hamster maze; there's all kinds of places to disperse gasses and slow down velocity. I can't believe anyone who cares the slightest bit about performance would even consider putting one of those pieces of crap at the end of their exhaust system.

No, I don't have a ten second car, but I do understand the very basic fundamentals of exhaust performance. FLOWMASTERS ARE DESIGNED FOR SOUND AND NOT FLOW! End of story.

A good rule of thumb- If you can't see through it, it's garbage.
