Flowmaster vs borla?

I have a 95 z28 with pacesetter mid length headers magnaflow high flow cat, flowmaster 80 series, mild comp cam and various other mods. I've been reading that flowmasters don't flow as well as other mufflers. I am looking for a nice idle and aggressive sound, would any other muffler do that without restricting the flow. I've heard that borla is a very nice muffler any comments.

Do you have a full catback, or just the Flowmaster muffler? If its just the muffler, upgrade to a complete catback. The performance gains are primarily in the 3" intermediate pipe. Swapping only the muffler doesn't do much.

The claims of poor flow with Flowmasters only applies to their 2.5" catback kit, which is nothing like what you have.

Having said that, Borla makes a VERY high quality exhaust with an awesome sound.

I think Flowmaster have gotten a bad rap over the years of poor flow at least. I can say that between Flowmaster and Magnaflow at least the Magnaflow had a LOT less interior noise. You could barely hear it inside but outside it was just as loud as the Flowmaster without all the resonance you get with Flowmaster-

Upgrading the whole exhaust system is worth it..just the muffler is an improvement, but not as much as the entire cat-back would provide- esp if you have already upgraded your cat-forward exhaust.

Borla is a little spendy, but stainless- do it once, and never have to do it again. I love mine, have had them on a couple vehicles. If you are planning on keeping the vehicle for a long time, worth it. If you are selling in a couple years, there are cheaper ways to go.
