i had the 40's, sounded fine to me, why not give the new 44's a try. heard them on a stang compared to the 40's and they defiantely sound better.

I guess you COULD put a 40 series before the axle and have a straight pipe fabbed up for where the stock muffler is... I would just straight pipe it without a muffler if it were me though.

You could put one or 2 after the axel and have 1 out the left or 1 out the left.

Flowmaster is overdone and makes crap power for fbodies. Get a Sweet Thunder bullet or dynomax bullet.

Any muffler you get isnt going to be putting out monster horsepower #'s...It all depends on what kind of sound hes looking for.

I have one sitting at my house it is one in and two out, my buddie had it on his truck, so I was thinking of fabn it to 1 in 1 out. There is about 2 feet of straight exhaust to work with just before the axle. Try it out.

I am about to install a single in/out 40 or 44 series flow on my car in the stock location with a turndown; no exhaust tips

EDIT: Anyone got a link to a 44 series muffler sound clip?

I tried the super 44 muffler yesterday. Currently my car's got totally stock exhaust, just no muffler. The super 44 killed all high end frequencies that otherwise make it through the straight pipe. Sounded real mellow and bassy, but not loud like I expected for "Flowmaster's most aggressive street muffler". Revved it up pretty good and the sound remained even and mellow all the way through, no rasp at all, even on deceleration, though it would have probably been much louder at full throttle under load but I could only try the muffler standing still.

Overall I thought it was way too quiet for a 2 chamber flow, or maybe I've become used to no muffler at all! I feel replacing the cat with an ORP would really help this muffler hit the right frequencies. That's what I am planning to do. Heck my old TA with a crossflow 80 series muff and gutted cat sounded WAAAAAAYY meaner than the super 44 I tried. The cat seems to completely kill the LT1's signature bark.

The muffler guy said I could gain more volume and tone by cutting off the part of the intermediate pipe where it narrows down for the stock muffler, and cutting off the outlet of the muffler at the base and welding a larger dia turndown instead.

Exhaust

Stick with a normal exhaust that fits your car. I tried the flowmaster 40 and they had to get rid of my other pipe on the side and it did not sound as nearly good as both hooked up if u have no cat get a flowmaster 80 series the cross flow or a hooker or magnaflow.

OK, the 44 series single in/out flowmaster is on my car now. All I can say is that this thing sounds really good now, much better that I thought when I initially tested it, probably because of the turndown and the fact that it's totally sealed. It's transversely mounted in the stock location, no tips.

Interior resonance is fairly high especially between 1500 and 2000 rpms, but not as bad as it was with no muffler. The sound is VERY deep and bassy, so it will make loose change and other unsecured items rattle like mad in that RPM range. Overall, I am quite happy with it since it's very civil and easy to live with around town. Doesn't seem too painful on the highway either. Anyone know of a website that will host WAV sound clips?
