Re: exhaust sytem

There are headers that are CARB-EO approved. I don't think they require the catback (which incorporates the muffler) to be certified.

What exactly are you after? Appears you just want "loud", and that can be achieved simply by changing the muffler, along with whatever tips you want. You would have to check your local laws with regard to sound level on a replacement muffler.

Re: exhaust sytem

Well after reading what appears to be a post from "drunk text messages from last night" you should look into either a SLP LM1 or LM2. No point in buying an exhaust system for $400 just to spend another $100 in tips unless you really like the tips and sound of a different exhaust.

Living in California will make things a little more difficult but not impossible.

Re: exhaust sytem

So is this just for a cat-back system, or headers also?
If your willing and mechanically inclined you could get LT headers and a O.R.Y-pipe and a cat-back, then just change it back to factory manifolds & catted Y-pipe for smog every 2yrs.
FYI, this is what I'll be doing, since I live in CA also.

Re: exhaust sytem

"Too-loud" is subjective- what one person thinks is too loud another person will think is too quiet.

If you want it to be loud enough to **** off your neighbors, get the loudmouth. If you want a nice sounding exhaust but not too loud go with Magnaflow.

Not sure what else to tell you...

Re: exhaust sytem

I just had Kooks w/3" Y-pipe with cats installed with a Corsa 3" exhaust and it sounds awesome on my LT1. When just cruising or light throttle it has a nice rumble, but when you step on it and the revs climb, it gets MUCH louder and sounds awesome! Even with CA approved shorty headers it would still sound phenonemal. The Corsa's would pretty much take up your $1000 budget but you could add headers later too.
