Exhaust questions (in CA)
Exhaust questions (in CA)
Ok, so Im in Cali
but I want better exhaust but still legal. I'm thinking longtubes, probably pacesetters but I am open to suggestions. Price is not really an issue, I just want a good deal but I definitely want them ceramic coated and not painted, and they are going to have to hav AIR and EGR.
My next question is, what can I do for a y-pipe? I plan on getting a hi-flow cat. Is there a y-pipe that will directly bolt up with the headers and my SLP LM, or is this looking like a custom job? Also, should I throw 2 cats on this y-pipe for the smog ****? Just looking for options here, I would go with mid-tubes but I'm not sure on my options there.
Any thoughts? And yes, I have thought of moving...

That sux for you.
Anyway, you can't run LT or mid length headers legally. You can only legally run shorties. Look for items w/CARB approval.
What ever headers you decide to get there should be a matching Y.
2 cats would be more free flowing than cramming it all through 1, but CA is militant about changing cat configurations or moving them. You better check with a local shop before hand.
The most free flowing cats are going to be the ones w/the metal substrate. Magnaflow makes some in their new spun design. They're more expensive than the standard ceramic, but w/only 300 cells they'll flow better. There are some cheaper ones on ebay, but I don't know if I'd trust them.

Well..they check to see if you've moved or removed the cats...that's illegal. And most LT or mids will do that. You can take your chance on some places that just check if you have cats...unless they know where the stock location should be. They might pass you visual. Some places don't even do visual..just sniffer test.
I just do shorties and stock cats...passes smog. Tried random tech ypipes once, and couldn't pass the sniffer. My smog placed "didn't mind" that cats were moved...but there's no easily way to get around the sniffer.
Having said that...you can put whatever catback you want on your car, b/c it doesn't move your stock cats. So you can gain some power and noise.
