Exhaust question

I have a 1995 camaro z28 LT1 and i just bought hooker long tube headers, summit 3" universal X pipe, two flowmaster 10 series mufflers, I want to run two highflow cats also, i was thinking magnaflow ? But i'm trying to find the shortest cats avalible ? I found spun cats but i have no clue about them, i shortest overall lenght cat i found soo far is 13" but i forgot if it was round or oval shape. And i want all of this connected to my flowmaster 3" tips that are currently on my chockmaster catback. I'll be having someone be doing all of the fabracting work. Oh and i have to have 2.5" over the axle cause 3" wont work. I also want to delete the egr, air pump and a/c, i got block off plates and i'm gonna get a pcm from pcmforless to delete the egr so i wont get a ses light.

Do you currently have 2 cats on your 95?

No the 95's only came with one. But since i'm doing the true dual i'm gonna go with two cats, and i'm thinking about having the cats welded on the collectors then the x pipe then the muffs.

Do you need the cats for inspection? If not just delete them also. I dont know how to hook a second cat in the computer or if you even need to.

There is no connection between the cat and the PCM in OBD-I.... so there is no issue involved with adding a second cat. Only OBD-II has the after-cat sensors to verify that the cats are there and working.

Minor point, but not all 95's were single-cat - the 95 CA emissions A4 cars had dual cats (and still no after-cat sensors).

Thanks for the info. That is something I was wondering about. I thought that some 95s did have 2 cats.
I just ordered Stainless works headers and catted Y pipe for my car. I am excited to get them on.

I think i'm just gonna go with one cat, i don't really need one, but i'm still having trouble finding the right cat, i need a highflow cat that will flow up to 5.7L and i dont think i want a spun style just a round or oval shape, and the shorter the better, and i dont want to spend over 100 bucks for one.

Re: Exhaust question

I would reconsider going with 1 cat. You would cause an uneven back pressure depending on where the cat was placed, i.e. before or after the actual X in the pipe. X, and H pipes for that matter, were introduced to equalize back pressure between the cylinder banks on dual exhaust systems (versus running two straight pipes). Placing the cat BEFORE the X, would create a weird exhaust tone since one pipe would have a slightly higher pressure and obviously the other would be lower. 2 Cents.
