exhaust on a budget
exhaust on a budget
i built an exhaust on a budget. i figured some of you guys that are trying to do it cheap might be able to pull some ideas from it. also keep in mind while you are looking at it is that it is one my racecar. i drove if a little bit just down my street and back and it is pretty darn loud.
you can see on the driver side i have the aluminum heat wrap around the fuel lines, and then header wrap around the section of the exhaust pipe that runs near. i wanted to do everything i could to prevent the fuel from getting hot/burning my car down
for the exhaust hanger you see that steel beam i purchased. i used 2 extra 3" pipe clamps as well. i took the exhaust hanger L brakcet from the tranny/torque arm mount arm and drilled out the rivets. then with that beam i hung the exhaust by using bolts. defintely ghetto, but definitely works. the beam is aluminum, or aluminized, and through my miminal engineering knowledge i have decided that my lack of vibration is because there is flex in that beam that aborbs it. le me know if you have questions or want better picutres.

the last one is a good picture of the L bracket with the bolts through it (actually i stink at pictures so they are all bad but its about the best i could do)
if anyone actually wants to see underneath pics let me know and i'll put it up in the air, but only if popular demand wants it

wow...that is pretty ghetto...
basically you just put turndown extensions on the collectors.
probably would make more power by going to an Xpipe...help with scavenging.
you can pick up the universal kits for about $100
but hey...whatever works.
i drove my cammed LS1 with LTs and straight pipes off an Xpipe for 6 months...i know how loud it is!!!

yeah, its 30" pipes with turndowns. yeah, my car is idling super low, like 625 or so, and i am wondering if the lack of a crossover pipe has something to do with it. the whole exhaust probably cost me 20 bucks for everything total. i figured for people on a super tight budget it is a good temporary exhaust. i will be doing duals eventually, but not anytime too soon.
