difference between single and dual cat headers

What is the difference between headers made for a single cat f-body and a dual cat f-body? Is it just the Y-pipe? Could I for example buy shorty headers made for a dual cat car, but buy a y-pipe made for a single cat car?

The design of the header itself is different as well to accomodate the dual catted y-pipe. Take a look at this link for example:http://www.macperformance.com/store/...ategory_ID=567
You can see the big difference in design between the 94-95 single cat style versus the dual cat 96-97 style.

yeah the dual-cat headers are shorter and in all honestly looks to flow less then the single cat setup.

I HAD a 96 Z, stock it has dualcats. What I did was buy single cat headers, then use a dualcat ypipe from randomtech that allowed the use of single cat headers.

In my opinion, I'd go the single cat header route and adjust your exhaust configuration to match them. Either get another ypipe with cats or run an offroad ypipe.

yeah the one side has to be built to accomodate one cat bolting directly to the header. which means all the primaries are bunched up and contorted around.
