cutting cat off
Re: cutting cat off
A hollow cat will probably hurt exhaust flow more than it helps it, unless you installed a pipe between the inlet and the outlet. A "sudden expansion" causes pressure loss, as does the "sudden contraction" that immediately follows it. When the ceramic substrate is still there, it smooths the flow. Any hollow cats I ever heard sounded terrible.
The cat isn't hurting performance. Removing it will not hurt performance. Best thing to do is just leave it alone.

Re: cutting cat off
I had my cat cut off and just had a straight piece of pipe welded in where it was, sounds a lot better and the car has seemed to perform a bit better with it gone. The only drawback to this really is you will experience a popping noise when coming down from a high rev, but a good tune will clear that right up. Good luck and keep us posted.
Re: cutting cat off
Had to remove my cat when I installed LT headers, still trying to figure out to put a cat back in the system. It's going to require custom welding that I don't have equipment for. I personally don't like the hollow sound, the exhaust (rich) smell that stinks up my garage after starting it up. And instead of black carbon on my SS tips that used to come off with a wipe of a rag. I now have sticky brown residue that needs polish and elbow grease to remove. If your into racing it may be OK, but if it's a street driver, IMO keep the CAT(s).
