Well I have a cutout on my exhaust system. I have yet to open it in my 2 months of owning the car. Over the weekend I decided I would open it up to see if I liked the sound and gains. Well while attempting this I found out that one of the studs/nuts is stripped. So I plan on cutting the stripped on off.

My question is since I will be cutting it off and not be able to cap it if I don't like is this:

Will the car sound good or will it sound like A$$ since I have stock manifolds?

Does anyone here have stock manifolds w/cutout and if so how does it sound?

Yes I know I should get headers, and when I get the funds I will. I just don't want to cut it off and my car sound like ****. TIA for your input.

I drove mine around w/ a cutout on stock manifolds and my magnaflow catback for years. I think it sounds great. At very low rpms like a takeoff when you engage the clutch it sounds a little like a dump truck but sounds awsome around 2k.

 

What were the hp gains like when you were stock with the cutout?


Not to sure if I want my camaro to sound like a dump truck.

 

Personally, I thought my cutout sounded very good along with stock manifolds and y-pipe.

If your a car guy, you'll enjoy it a lot. Except for the maby that it vibrates a lot of crap...at least mine does.

 

I had a cutout on stock manifolds and y pipe (with a hooker catback) and I absolutely LOVED the way it sounded... mean and loud, just a great muscle LT1 sound. Compliments every time I went somewhere... pulled stock ypipe only to find out that my cat was gutted by previous owner. Gut your cat and you'll fall in love with the sound. Just got my longtubes on, gotta finish putting everything back together and then we'll see how it compares with cutout vs stock.

 

Not exactly sure, but the best time I got with CAI/exhaust/cutout was 8.7 @ 81 mph with a 1.991 60'.

 

Sounds like ***. Do it if you don't have a catback, but please only open it up while your racing.

 

Finally a different opinion!! I have hesitations about opening mine. Like I said If I open it I won't be able to cap it if I don't like it. I would have to go buy a new cutout. I am still up in the air about this. I keep thinking about it and I just don't want the Z to sound obnoxious.

 

haha that same thing happened to me, I had a cutout w/ a catback and it sounded awsome. Then I had to get to my low oil sensor so dropped the y pipe and both cats were gutted.

 

You could also drill the stud out and put a bolt in, would work just as well for closing it.
