Cut out or loudmouth
Cut out or loudmouth
I cant decide on which one I want to get. I have Long tubes to a 3 inch texas speed catted y pipe and a 40 series muffler welded into the stock catback. I believe its 2.75 inches.
My questions
1. Which one would make better power?
2. How loud would each one be
Thank you

Re: Cut out or loudmouth
Not sure how much power you'd actually gain from a cutout, but as far as the loudness factor goes, it depends on which loudmouth system you'd be getting. Both systems are fairly loud, I've heard the LM1 is a bit louder and deeper than the LM2. The loudmouth series in general is known for it's droning at cruising speeds, but you've got a catted y so that should help take some of the edge off. If you like how your current setup sounds, I say go with the cutout for when you wanna uncork her and be really loud and proud
hope this helps, good luck with your selection.

Re: Cut out or loudmouth
I know the LM2 will flow better than the flowmaster 40 you currently have (my buddy had the LM2 on his '98 SS), it'll sound a little more aggressive than the 40 also, not sure about the rumbler though. Try this site:

Here, you'll find several exhaust setups on LS1 cars that you can listen to to help narrow your search. You'll also find some information that is quite useful on the site that pertains to exhaust mods and mods in general on LS1's. I've found it to be a resourceful site, hopefully it'll help you. Keep us posted.

Re: Cut out or loudmouth
You're welcome, LS1. Since I've joined this site, Injuneer and numerous others have helped me, I just try to return the favor wherever I can. I'll be interested to see what setup you choose, mainly because you have a catted y. I'm up here in northern IN and they don't test emissions up where I'm at so a lot of guys I know run ORYs. Find anything you like on LS1 sounds yet?
Re: Cut out or loudmouth
Yeah the LM1 is a good system to run with stock manifolds, but once you start adding LT's it can get pretty raspy without swapping the muffler. The LM2 seems to be the more grown-up version of the two, nice throaty tone without as much rasp. I'm very interested to hear how it sounds on a catted y with LT's. My buddy had it on his '98 SS with pacesetter LT's and an ORY, it sounded great at idle and lower rpms, but the rasp really came out when he got on the throttle, he eventually swapped the LM2 muffler for a Borla XR-1 muffler to run his version of the borlamouth system and it sounds a lot better now. More toned down but still nice and throaty.
Re: Cut out or loudmouth
I bought the LM2 for my Z, it sounds great. My Z has long tubes w/no cats. You can hear different exhaust sounds from each manufacture on YouTube. Maybe that will help you as it did me. I bought my LM2 on ebay for 386.00 w/free shipping.

Re: Cut out or loudmouth
Good point, sir. I think with a catted y and LT's the LM2 should deliver just the sound you are looking for. The loudmouth series really are great systems, hell I'd pick one up if not for my buddy selling me his dual/dual for so cheap.
