Custom Dual Exhaust

torwards the beginning of 08 im going to try to get a custom exhaust set up, so far the plan is kooks 1 7/8s 2 step headers to an X-pipe then to some chambered mufflers, my question is though, what is your insight on the size of the exhaust? should i run 2.5" or 3" back from the headers for my best horsepower/sound? or is this just a bad idea in general? open to all suggestions but i really do want a custom dual exhaust. If i go with 2.5" im going to get my hands on some GMMG chambered mufflers but if i go 3" where should i look for some good chambered mufflers that arent too restrictive on a street/strip car? Btw the car is a 99 z28 and will hopefully have heads and cam one day, and i want this exhaust to stick around after that too.

2.5" pipes are more than adequate for 500hp

so i say stick with those for the ground clearance.

i've got 3" and while my clearance isn't bad...i wouldn't mind having 1/2" more sometimes.

Nice, how much did the T/D setup cost you? I SERIOUSLY want to do that with my car. Who did it for you?

jegs universal 3" Xpipe
magnaflow 4x9 straight thru mufflers, 3" in/out
a couple of 3" ID 3-bolt flanges (flowtech headers are not slip fit)
a pair of turndowns from jegs
some U-bolts and a set of exhaust hangers

and a few hours on my back cutting and grinding to get the angles right (to get them tucked up and the pipe off the driver side which has an oddly angled collector).

then just took them to a shop around the corner for the final welding.

UNFORTUNATLY i had to have it all welded up 3 days before a Cat 5 hurricane (wilma) came through. so the driver side hangs a bit lower. but it workes for now.

not enough to really notice...

at the time it was a reasonably sized cam, so the low end was not phenominal.

but it has no problem running down the highway (flat) in 6th gear turning 1400rpm
