You aren't going to see much in the way of power gains. If you're concerned with exhaust flow, consider an improved Y-pipe with high flow cats. That also avoids the SES light you will get when you remove the cats. There are ways to eliminate it, but why not just spend the money on a better system?

Or power adding bolt-ons.

If you want better sounding exhuast then just get a cat-back for now. Then get headers and y-pipe like Injuneer said.

thanks for all the info, i already have s&m headers and bought the car with all
the mods so maybe it already has high flow cats, i will have to get under it and check it out.

I removed mine the other day. I did it just for a throatier sound, and I like the smell.

The smell was what motivated me to put a pair of cats back on.
