Car Sound Cats

Does anyone here have any experience with Car Sound Cats? I'm looking to make a Hooker LT/Mufflex ORY-pipe a little bit more emissions friendly and was directed to Car Sound (Denny of Mufflex variety suggested them). I found a 3" cat (Part #14109, listed as OFF ROAD USE ONLY!). I'll call up Car Sound tomorrow to find out what that means exactly, but I'm assuming it doesn't meet some federal regulation(s).

Has anyone used Car Sound cats with a H/C car and gotten through emissions? I'm running a LT4 Hotcam and have passed emissions in the past through stock exhaust. Thoughts?

Quick follow up, Part # 94019 is listed as "EPA OBDII Compliant". They are both 3" in/out, I'll find out what the differences are from the manufacturer tomorrow and will post what I find out.

I run a Car Sound cat on my blown 95 Z28. Passes emissions with this cat. Common cat used by exhaust shops.

Any idea what kind of hit you are taking with the cats in place? Did you ever do any before and after dyno testing?

I'm set on putting them on, just curious what I'll be giving up when I do.

Hi Chris.... I had the CarSounds, also installed by Denny at Mufflex. A pair of 3". When Second Street dyno tuned the engine at close to 500 flywheel HP, they didn't find any problems with the CarSounds. Obviously, they only had them in the system when they were tuning it NA, and not when running the 300-shot of nitrous with leaded C16. They also had a local PA guy check the emissions, and the CarSounds allowed the engine to meet the NJ standards. But I never bothered to run it through the NJ system.

Hey Fred! Good to hear from you old friend!

I don't remember you having cats on the built motor, were they only on the car for the tune? I'm assuming you switched plans somewhere during the build or something? Anyway, thanks for the datapoint.

Chris

P.S. You ever hear from any of the old CJCFO guys? I've lost track of Bryan and George, I catch up with Cliff every once and a while.
