Borla sound without Borla?

I love the sound of a Borla exhaust with an open plate and a cam. Just trying to figure out how I could get the same sound without buying a Borla. Do you think a 3" catback with no muffler y-ing out in the back and exiting through dual tailpipes would give pretty much the same sound?

Should be about the same thing Basically A borola with an open plate nothing goes through the muffler since the exhaust is going to take to easiest passage. Some exhaust might go through the muffler, but not enough to make a difference.

Give it a try. Summit sells the 3" I pipe for like $70 if you wanted to go that route and then just add a y and split it into duals. My car was setup like that when I got it and I hated it personally, but to each his own.

I dont think it sounds good at all unless the car is cammed. I personally think open exhaust sounds like @$$ with the stock cam. I might give it a try, but I will prob go duals instead.

I liked mine with the stock cam and shorties. Now I like it 10x more with the H/C and LT's on it. You can tell when you're driving it when the exhaust starts getting pushed through the muffler. It sounds sweet. At idle is even better as it's pretty much open from the headers back. I did put the largest plate on it to see if it would quiet it down some and it did help when driving around, but there isn't any difference at idle.

I'm going to try to put a video up soon.

I think that the dual pipes with no muffler will sound pretty crappy once you start putting some power through them, but they would sound great at idle. At least put a GMMG or Magnaflow muffler back there after the split off.

Not really. It is essentially the same thing, but with the longer pipe and SOME of the exhaust flowing through the muffler it creates a completely different tone.
