bad cats?

Yesterday I was driving home from school and noticed that "rotten egg" smell coming from my car. When the cats go bad is that smell there all the time or can it be intermittent? I've had cats go bad before on previous (non ls1) camaros. I just didn't know if things were gonna be any different when the ls1 cats go bad. Thanks in advance for all the input. If my cats ARE bad, I'm just gonna go with some LTs and ORY, rather than spend $1k on a new set of cats.....and no, I can't get them replaced under warranty. For one, I have 139k on the car now and two, they were already replaced under warranty at 72k.

Usually the rotten egg smell is associated with a failing or bad cat. Are you getting an SES light? Did you get an SES light in the past when the cat(s) went bad?

That could be one sign of a cat going bad, but the real test is go to a muffler shop and have them do a temp reading from front to back and they can tell if they are cloged up.

I am not getting an SES light. About 2 months ago or so, I got an SES light, had them checked out and found out they were the catalytic def. codes. The light went away on its own after about 2 days and hasn't come back since. That was around the same time my gas mileage starting going to sh**! I did get an SES light in the past when they went bad, but the light stayed on. Anyway, I'll take it to a muffler shop and have them checked. Can anyone tell me about how much I might spend on that?

If your talking about how much for the test it might be free, due too it's a test for smog equipment. I know when my went bad the test was free, but I did have them replace it with another. Just ask the muffler shop, after they do the test and they give you some crazy price on a replacement just say you'll do it later on.
