Anyone have a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler?

I like what I heard on http://ls1sounds.com/dynomax.htm

But I wanted to hear from an owner. Do you like the sound? How's it look? Price?

I have the Dynomax Ultra-Flow Welded Race Muffler Part #17227; it cost $99.95 from Summit Racing when i bought it a few years ago.....and it sounds pretty good to me

What sort of mods do you have on your car. I'm wondering how it will sound on a stock LT1 as opposed to a Callaway 383 cu inch LT1 (which I may be getting in a few years).

Just trying to do some future planning .

The sound on dynomax's website of the TransAm is pretty good, and the sound on ls1sounds.com is good too. I'm just wondering how it will sound on
1) a stock LT1 with stock headers and everything else
and
2) how it will sound on a 383 with headers

Don't happen to have a video of your car do you?

I've got one on my Camaro, it sounds "ok". My cut out open sounds tons better IMO. I have long tubes though, so mine sounds a little different than that ls1.

Well, my goal is to have the car be quiet, but sound a little more unique than stock. In my neighborhood of Volvos, Porsches, BMWs, and Mercedes, me having a Hooker Catback or SLP Loudmouth wouldn't go over well. And I definitely wouldn't like the extra attention from the police.

From the soundclip, I like the high compression sound of the super turbo. It kind of reminds me of the Ferrari 360 that used to be in my neighborhood, except lower pitched. I'm really not a fan of making the car sound like it belongs on the drag strip or racetrack, so I thought this muffler was unique and nice.

I just don't know what to expect on an LT1, because I believe the two soundclips were of LS1s, and LS1s sound a lot different.

My mods are all in my signature (cardomain site). I can email you a couple sound clips if you want.

Thanks onebadponcho!

Is your Dynomax muffler the Super Turbo type or is it one of the others? The Super Turbo is what I am wanting, and it sounds a lot different from Dynomax's other mufflers.

If the car has an electric cutout, please make sure it is closed in the video if you don't mind (because I won't have one). My email address is speedbbb at aol.com

It's the Dynomax Ultra-Flow Welded Race Muffler Part #17227; it's different from the Super Turbo, but it is a stock replacement (crossflow) muffler. I have to warn you, the sound clips are a bit "scratchy" in spots. The one from inside the car is a bit better.

Thanks for the email, I'll check out the videos tomorrow afternoon (it's 2 AM now).

I'm curious... you call the car a Supernatural TA... is that in any way related to Callaway Supernatural engines?

No, it's not built by Reeves Callaway, but it sounds cool huh?

He's sure built some awesome cars

The 1988 Sledgehammer Corvette comes to mind

Please be aware that Dynomax sells 2 sizes of superturbo mufflers for Camaros. One with larger tubes than the other. (2.5" vs.3.0") I had the small (2.5") tubed version on my car and loved it. The sound was perfect. It would be good for a stock intermediate pipe car. When I went to a bigger intermediate pipe, I had to get a bigger muffler. The little one was too restrictive over 5500 rpms with a big intermediate pipe.

Hey onebadponcho, I finally listened to the sound files you sent me. The car sounds pretty good! It has a nice stock sound to it in a way (I mean that in a good way). It's a lot more aggressive than stock, but it is not exactly what I am looking for unfortunately.

I'm looking for a bit deeper of a tone (hopefully sounds a bit more like a subwoofer) and without being able to hear the engine going through its cycles so much. I like the way my mom's SS sounds, but I don't want the exact sound her car has. (It has an LS1 though, and the car I'm looking to put it on has an LT1, so maybe it wouldn't sound so similar afterall). I'd like it a bit deeper and slightly louder than her's if possible

She has SLP's 345 hp package: the center mount exhaust, cold air intake, etc. This is how her's sounds:

Unfortunately I couldn't find a better video of it. I probably have one stored somewhere else. The sound inside the car isn't the same as the sound from the exhaust pipes, and that's what I'm trying to say I want to sound deeper.

I'd like mine to just be slightly louder and slightly deeper, but the same highly compressed deep sound. I think the Dynomax Super Turbo will provide that, but I'm really not sure. It has to be a sound I can live with, because this won't be a track car or a car that will get me pulled over for noise pollution.

Your mom drives that??? Awesome

My exhaust has a gutted cat with a 3" pipe through it. I've never had the real cat on there with the exhaust so I don't know for sure what it would sound like, but I'd assume it would be quieter/less raspy. You might do some research on the Hooker Aerochamber muffler. That might be what you're looking for soundwise.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check that out.

I think my best bet is to do some research. Go to some f-body shows and listen to people driving in .

Unfortunately cut-outs and no cats are very common here, and I'm not really going for that, so I'm not sure how much going to more shows will do for me.

The sound of these TVR Tuscans would be perfect:

Ferrari Testarossa exhaust is nice, but I'd like it to sound lower/deeper
