"3 True Duals Problem
"3 True Duals Problem
From what I am reading on here, it looks like my 3" True Duals may not be possible on my '97 WS6. I have sitting at home a Universal Kit from Summit and Dynomax Bullets with Pacesetter LTs in transit. I know I would have to go under the floorpans with the 3" setup and with that, you loose clearance hardcare and you can see it...
*My question is would the 2.5" Universal Kit from summit w/ 2.5" bullets be more flexable in for my application as far as clearance and looks are concerned?
**BTW, I am not dumping them.

do a search for this.....
Pics of my 3" True Duals OVER THE AXLE ON BOTH SIDES
He has pictures of his setup. In my opinion thats the nicest I have seen.
Over the axle duals is for the most part expensive, and/or a big pain to do. Hence, why so many folks dump before the axle. I'd search and talk to a few people to see what they went through.
Hope thats a good start for ya,

Here's link to the system I made with a Jegs 3" X-pipe kit and the Jegs 2.5" universal kit...necked down to 2.5" before going over axle, but now that I've done it, and its rock solid and does not bounce, I could have easily done 3" duals over the axle, but would have welded the 2 sides together going over the axle....right now I can independently remove each side separately as I put a disconnect right in front of the axle in case I needed to drop the fuel tank for a pump swap again.

for anything short of a big h/c setup...2.5" duals are more than sufficient for good power gains.
i say dump them as well. cheaper, easier, lighter and sound mean rumbling under the car.
you can always put some small dents in the tubing to allow you to mount them closer to the frame. my old flowtech 3" ypipe was like that and it never scrapped.
do yourself a favor when you do the headers...put on some poly motor mounts it will keep your engine movement under control and prevent most clearance issues

You guys that dump them do you notice any exhaust smell in the car? also hows the drone at highway speed? I had my setup with just the pipe going over the axles w/o tale pipes and notice ALOT of drone and the smell of exhaust. these didnt have any kind of turn down on them just straight back, only drove it once like that before I finished up my mufflers and mounted everything.
Well, after reading all the replies, I do have the 3" X-Pipe and Mufflers on their way back to Summit for an exchange (2.5"). I don't see anything in the near future (around 2 years) being done internally except for maybe a mild cam and some rockers. Thanks for all the advice!
If you have a large cam, I'd recommend only doing the left/driver side to help reduce vibration. They are a piece of cake to do if you do tham at the same time as the header install. The bolts are easy to get to with a universal socket joint. # bolts top and bottom, drill the rivets out, pull the clam shell apart, toss the rubber, replace with the poly, and use the supplied nuts/bolts to secure the clam shell back together and reinstall.
I had both sides poly for a while in my '95, but the entire inside and steering wheel vibrated too much so I replaced the pass side with a stocker and it help, but I have a pretty rough idling cam too.
i don't notice any exhaust smell inside teh car, high or slow speed.
and i have a pretty rough cam, and with both mounts being poly, and the trans and torque arm poly...i noticed a VERY minimal increase in vibration in the car.
the duals will work great for your setup...
