3.8 V6 Exhaust Questions/Opinions

Hey everybody, I did a lot of looking but did not find clear answers to my question so I started this (yet another) thread. Just got a 99 camaro convertible with the 3.8 V6 (stock). The current stock exhaust is ok but has a rattle at certain rpms (I think it's the cat). I would like to eliminate the cat and run new 2.25 pipe to either a (single in, dual out) Dynomax Super Turbo muffler or a Borla XS muffler. I have listened to numerous youtube vids for each setup and thought I would ask the gang here for opinions as well.

Anyone running a setup similar to what I want? Any advice, opinions pertaining to my planned setup? I want to avoid the ricer sound at all costs and don't want a super loud exhaust since it's a ragtop. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all, after a lot of research I am considering ditching the transverse muffler completely and going with a regular single 1 in 1 out muffler. Thinking a new Magnaflow cat, Borla muffler and 2.5 tube, anyone running a single exhaust with Borla or Dynomax? Thoughts?

Hey i had a VERY similiar problem with my camaro (94 v6) the CAT rusted out and made annoying rattling at certain RPM. To solve the problem i got a new CAT and kept all piping because it was in original shape. I replaced the muffler which was a dynomax and put on a cherry bomb glasspack. I had a great outcome and recommend this to anyone who wants to get the nice sound out of a v6. but with v8's i recomend also because it helps greatly with breathing

check out the pics i have on page 2 of my cardomain site.

i put a bullet/turndown on my 99z. the bullet was after the axle, painted flat black to blend in, and the turndown was hidden.

looked cool, sounded good (granted this was on a cammed ls1) and wasn't particularly raspy...even with no cat.

you can buy the intermediate pipe without any muffler off Summit, its the dynomax pipe. then pick your muffler. this way it has all the hangers. and if i'm not mistaken the tube is 2.5" mandrel bent.

here i looked it up for ya:
dynomax pipes...both the 3" and the 2.5"

other option is to pick up a stock exhaust from an ls1. the tubing is 2.75", has the hangers, and is mandrel bent. throw your muffler of choice on and you're done...CHEAP.
