3.5 inch exhaust, Fit over the Axle??
3.5 inch exhaust, Fit over the Axle??
Guys I am posting this here since I don't think anyone will see it over at the exhaust section.
Will a 3.5 inch madrel bent tube go over the axle and clear the Factory panhard Bar.
Doing a 3.5 inch exhaust and I need to know if I will run into problems??
Plus does anyone know who has the best deals on 3.5 inch 90 degree elbows???
Thanks

If the pipe will fit over the stock panhard bar, it will bang around on it over bumps.
You need to minimally get a relocated bar like this one from BMR.
These are twin 2.5" pipes and you can see the most area is near the outside pass side, there's about 1" under it and about 1/2" above it.

the pipes themselves will not neccesarily flow better.
without getting into the dynamics of fluid (in this case air/exhaust) flow through a pipe.....here are some calculations:
cross sectional areas:
2.5" pipe = 4.91 sq in
3" pipe = 7.07 sq in
which represents a 30% increase in area
3.5" pipe = 9.62 sq in
dual 2.5" pipe = 9.82 sq in
which is a measly 2% increase
4" pipe = 12.57 sq in
dual 3" pipe = 14.14 sq in
which is a 11% increase
realize that the addition of 2 mufflers in place of one, will probably flow better, even if they are the same kind. but the pipes themselves are not much different.

Thank you so much for the pic Fred, gives me something to go by
been collecting pics all week.
teke184 I know that 2.5 duels is pretty much equal to a 3.5 single but the duels get on my nerves in a few ways.
1. Sets to low to the ground, and I think it looks a little tacky having two exhaust mufflers cut at the axle hanging down, plus it drags when I am not careful.
2. The exhaust is too loud with the Bullets, and dumps at the axle's and makes everyday driving seem a little uncomfortable specially when I have people of the opposite gender riding with me
, lol
3. I have it set up where I would have to cut the exhaust to get it out of the way, seems to hard to get to the tranny, TQ arm, Driveshaft, ETC
Don't get me Wrong duels are nice but not for me, lol
The new setup will be 3.5 madrel bent into a magnaflow muffler (Quiet but yet people have ran 700RWHP ane lost 5 hp from taking it off with a similiar camshaft and setup to what I have). I do plan to set this exhaust up similiar to the Borla with an adjustable plate setup near the muffler (just like the borla) so I can adjust the sound of the exhaust note if I chose to.

I did a Mufflex 3 1/2 conversion. It fits over the axel and thru the pan-hard bar/ body access. I did not like their clamping hardware and designed/ welded my own with 3/8 fasteners. So far, I have no issues with pipe/ body contact.
