1994 Exhaust Heat Shields

How many heat shields were used above and around the gas tank on a 1994 LT1? I recently installed a new gas tank on my car, and when we were reinstalling the heat shields, of which there were two, we noticed that it looked like there should have been a third. We couldn't find it, and we only removed two pieces during this particular repair. I'm the original owner of the car, so in theory I should have all of the heat shields, assuming there are more than two.

I just found this on shoebox's site, http://shbox.com/1/exhaust_system.jpg

I think the pieces I'm referring to would be 11 & 25. Perhaps there are only two pieces of shielding. Is 31 a piece of shielding that would be at the rear of the car?

No, 31 is the bracket off the cat into the body mount before the 'cat-back' system would start.

Ok. Thanks. I see that now, and I know what you're talking about. We were never able to get that piece to fit correctly with my Kooks Y-pipe. We could never get it to mount and slide through the rubber support. We didn't mess with it too long, but something seemed to be up. I also think it was adjustable on the Y-Pipe, but we could never get it to line up correctly.

For some reason 3 heat shields sounds right to me- I haven't been under the back half of my car in a few years though so I can't remember for sure.

Can you describe where it looks like it should be?

The two pieces we installed were a big piece that looks like it would be 25 in the picture. I want to say it went right about the mufflers. The other piece looked like 11, and fit in the area where the tailpipe goes over the rear axle. It just kinda looked like there could, or should, be another piece that would have probably fastened to those two pieces. It looked like it would have been placed in roughly the same area as piece 25, but towards the front of the car. I even want to say there were holes and slots in those pieces where something would have slid in and been screwed into place.

Unfortunately, I live in Michigan and my car is in Kentucky. So, I can't go look. I was just curious if anyone knew whether there were more than two pieces of shielding back there. In shoebox's diagram, it doesn't really look like there is, unless part number six is a piece of shielding, but it looks like that part might be above the cat.

I have some factory service manuals I can check out. But I just moved into a new house, and god knows where they are.
