Cool 1993 z28 catback exhaust

i am thinking of buying the slp loudmouth catback from my 93 z28, but every system out there is for ls1 engine, does anybody know if this will fit into my car, will the hardware and hangers fit just fine or will i have to do some mods to it. any suggestions on what is the best catback out there (fyi dont want to spend $ alot like borla or corsa, its just an exhaust it is not worth almost $1000)

Do you like real loud and annoying sound? That's the LM1.

FWIR, it's a waste of money to buy the "kit". It's basically a "U" shaped piece of pipe, cut in the middle, and flipped, so it then looks like an "S". Any exhaust shop should be able to make it.

The kit comes with a flange on the SLP pipe, a hangar, and a few other small pieces, but if you opt to have the system welded, an exhaust shop can work around that.

I am running OBX, paid $290 for a 16g. stainless system. Here is a sound clip, starts around 2 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11hGs0zOMiA Then I paid $200 for the exhaust shop to weld it up instead of using clamps.

Wow, either you got gouged, or labor prices have really gone up. I think I paid $75 the last time I had an exhaust shop weld up the magnaflow, back when I had my 94 Z28.

I bought a used, dis-assembled LM1 system for my new 96 Z28. If install prices are really that high, I think I'll be bolting it up in my driveway.

They had to do more then weld up the joints. they also had to install new hangars, the old ones were shot, weld up new mounts and this was a full length headers with Y-pipe system. The car was in there for a couple hours them working on it.

Details, details.... :P

If they had to work LT headers into the mix, that sounds a bit more reasonable, considering standard labor is now, what..... $95/hr?

Depends where you go it ranges from $40-80 per hour around here. I could of went to Midnas and have them monkeys do it for $80 but I refuse to go there anymore. There was also the cost of the hangar parts. It is a bit on the high side I do agree but I don't mind forking out a little extra when I know it will be done right.

Did they weld it with stainless wire and tri-mix gas? Tig welded would actually be best with stainless.

They tig welded the stainless but the y pipe and headers were 16g. steel and mig welded them. I am no welding expert but I recall reading an article about welding stainless and how the methods vary from material to material.

that explains alot of the cost. Most shops don't use proper methods on stainless.

might be worth checking with a couple of the muffler shops and see what they could put on it. My car sounded real good with an aftermarket muffler in stock location. Even got pulled over for it before. Low rpm was quiet but started getting loud over 1500 rpm. My setup now sounds awesome with a true dual 3" with an xpipe and flowmaster 44's. If your not going over 3" on the catback a good muffler shop would proba ly get you what your looking for cheaper. As suggested above an electric cutout near the rear is a decent option too as you have some options for pipe diameter before cutout.
