00' T/A Headers

How hard is it so install a set of headers on a 2000 trans am WS6. A good friend of mine has one and wants to put a set on but isnt sure he can tackle it himself. Thanks

i just finished a header install on my car. and really the worst part of it was i had to unbolt the motor mount on the driver side and jack the motor up to get the header in. I also have the kooks 1 7/8 race header i bealive the regular sized header you wont have to jack the motor up for. Didnt have any broken bolt issues and suprisingly the bolts werent really tight or rusted on mine like they were on my lt1 car.

It really depends on the brand. What kind does he have?

I've installed a set in a single-car garage with regular hand-tools and ramps/jack-stands. Take your time and you'll be fine...

well we havent decided on which brand or size to buy. Anyone recommend any specific brand. Maybe one style will be easier than the other

Pacesetter LT's are the best bang for the buck, they fit and perform very good. Hooker LT's are another choice, they are a little more expensive though. Stay away from SLP headers, not only are they expensive but clearance is horrible you'll bottom out on everything.

Would it be ok to get uncoated headers and just paint them with a high temp muffler paint to save money. Also Will he need extentions for the sensors, i think i read that somewhere

Yeah that's fine, they actually sell ceramic coat spray paint now and that's what i'll be doing with mine once they arrive

alright cool. Also I've been looking over some and why are all the y-pipes i see are for off road use only. None of them have the AIR or EGR plugs in them, why?

They are for offroad use due to deleting the cats. And the ceramic spray actually works pretty good i had a buddy who done it. It just took a lot of coats. Pacesetters are a great bang for the buck there just not a tuned header. Honestly from what i have seen the pacesetters seem to be made a little better than the hookers. I would of went for the pacesetters but i got my kooks for about the same price.

Pacesetter on a budget.

ARH if not.

I did pacesetters due the fact I plan on upgrading to 1 7/8" in a couple years. I didn't feel like buying SS Headers twice.

I dont think he wants to get rid of the cats, around here the emissions stuff doesnt have to work but it has to be visible.

well in that case just gut the cats or you can get hi flow cats but thats just more money. Im glad we dont have emissions here

It is very tough to run true duals and amintain clearance. It is easier if you dump it before the axle, but you still lose ground clearance because you end up with the pipes running under the floorpan. If you go over the axle, then the pan hard brace is in the way on one side. BMR makes a replacement brace that will get you some clearance there though.
