South Carolina People in here!

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would help me out with some questions here. I am thinking about taking a job with a very good company in Greenville SC and was wondering......

1. Whats Greenville like?
2. How much is it to tag your car and what do you have to go through?
3. Emissions tests/Inspections?
4. How much is rent in/around Greenville?
5. Are there any areas I should stay away from?

Any info that you can provide would be great. Any extra info is also welcome. Thanks in advance!

I don't live in greenville and I never have but I can tell you what I know. It's a small town, there's enough to do around there to keep you busy and if you like to take your car to the strip, they have a new 1/4 strip around there, I would have to call my riend to get the address for you, but it's nice. Property tax on my car(02' z28) was about $600, and I lived in Columbia, SC. No emissions tests/inspections, so you can gut your cats if ya want to. rent is around 500 for single anywhere up to 700 depending on what area. As far as area you should stay away from, I dunno. I hope someone from the area can better answer your questions but I thought I'd throw some opions your way.

Where is the new 1/4 mile track near Greenville? Haven't heard about it. There's a couple of 1/8 mile tracks I know of.

Sorry for hijacking your thread

I guess you would call G'ville small in comparison to most cities but for us out here it is a large city. It is growing fast and spreading out. Greer and Simpsonville are just on the outskirts of Gville. BMW has helped them alot to grow.
Tagging a car is 'easy' i guess. Most of it could be done on line believe it or not. I dont recall the cost of tags but it aint much, less than $20 i think.
No testing so far!!
Rent is in the $700+ range for a good apt from what I remember. Of course there are cheaper joints.
I would stay away from Westside, it really depends on where your job is located and how close you want to be to that. They are doing construction and it sucks to get around the downtown G'vill area.

There is no 1/4 track. Commerce is the closest at 2ish hours. there are 2 1/8th mile tracks that are pretty fun.

I live in Six Mile, it is an hour from G'ville but I used to work there and know a few people over that way.

Drop me a line if you want and I can try to help you out more.

Who are you working for, or going to work for? Not alot of stuff in G'ville....to make HUGE money at...but there are some!

Greenville is pretty nice. I live in Spartanburg wich is about 20 miles north on I85. I think there's something like 400,000 people in the county. There is about anything you want to do there, and Atlanta and Charlotte are pretty close if the is anything you want there you cant find. 1/8 mile track is in Greer.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your help.

My name is Matt. I'm trying to decide if I should move from Vegas to Greenville and take a job with Honeywell. There are some personal issues with making a move at this time, but you know. I was just trying to find out how much it was going to be to live there, what to do around there and what the town is like. Traffic isn't a problem. I'm use to it. Try Houston, San Antonio, Philly/Delaware on rush hours on 95 or Las Vegas.

Again, thanks for the input everyone!

Hey, i live in a small town just out of g-ville, and go there about once a week. It's a good town to live in, not massive, but big to us. If you want to live IN g-vill 500-700 is about right, but, if you live outside, you can get it cheaper. I'd highly recomend the area! And hey... you can get some GREAT sweet tea!!

Re: South Carolina People in here!

Go for the job at Honeywell!! I worked there for a few months temp. when it was Allied Signal Aerospace, and my dad worked there for about 8 years! If youve lived in those big cities then youll love traffic around here! Honeywell is outside of Greenville maybe 15 miles or so in Greer. Plant is maybe 3 miles from the 1/8 mile dragstrip. Rent is from around 500- 700$ average, I guess. Nice mid sized town abot 100 miles from Charlotte, N.C and about 175 miles to Atlanta, Ga.. Lived here all of my life and its a pretty cool town! Not too many "bad" areas....Westside sucks!! Hope this helps ya some!
