Years of the 4L60
Years of the 4L60
Alright folks i gotta ask to clear up some stuff.
The 1993 Fbodies i know had the 4L60 not controlled electronically. I got that part.
But the 1994 Fbodies werent they the same as the 95? They had the 4L60E. Meaning that 94 and 95 should interchange being they are both OBD1?
Then the 1996 and 1997 Fbodies got a different 4L60E for OBD2 correct?
So shouldnt my 1994 Camaro tranny swap into my 1995 Trans Am no problem and vice versa? Any help is apprciated.

Re: Years of the 4L60
So if I have a 4L60 out of a 1997 Z28 will it work on my 1995 3.4 V6. What about torque converter?
This is because the tranny and tq converter have around 160k and I have an extra 4l60 out of a 97 Z.
Fit?
Thank you for the help.

Let's not spread bad information here.
The '93 is a 4L60 (700R4), so it's a stand alone year. Even an earlier 700R4 won't be a direct bolt in, because the wiring, vb, and plate are different. The '93 uses a round (5 pin) case connector. All previous 700's used a square (4 pin) case connector.
The '94 is a stand alone year, and isn't interchangeable with any other year. It's the only year in an F-Body that didn't have PWM lock-up.
In '95 they went to PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) lock-up. The valvebody got an extra solenoid to control the PWM. The case connector also has an extra pin.
'95-'97 are interchangeable, eventhough there are some minor internal differences.
Obviously '98-Up is a 2 piece case with a bolt-on bell housing.

The interchanges I posted are for V-8 cars only. The 3.4 V-6 uses a different bell housing than the V-8 cars.
