Question WOT 2-3 shift problems

Let me start off saying about 6 months ago I put a new edge coverter and trans go shift kit in. Without going into to much detail I had to leave the stock booster valve for the pump in instead of putting the trans go one provided. Well the tranny has been perfect shifts quick and firm. I have just finished with the following, pulled the tranny to fix a leak, then thought I would put that trans go booster valve in also. At this same time I put in a revised computer tune from mad Z28 and the only changes I had done that relate to this is the shift points were changed from 5900 to 6100 RPM. Now that the car is finished 1-2 is ok, sometimes hits the rev limit, but the 2-3 will not shift at WOT until I back off the throttle. The car is a 96 OBD2, and I use auto tap and have logged the trasmission perimeters before and after the new booster valve line pressure was 120 at WOT. Does this sound like a tranny problem or a computer problem? How should I go about figuring out the problem? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: WOT 2-3 shift problems

Common problem with LT1 and high stall.

Some claim computer issue; Bryan at PCM4Less is the only one that I know of who can cure this with tuning.

others (12SCNDZ) (frank at CPT) says it's a trans issue related to the fact that it takes time to fill accumulators for 2-3 and also to 4L60E pumps falling off on line pressure above 5500 rpm. PM him for discussion.

His box is full.
I thought the shifting problem for converters is for OBD1 computers only. Let me say I ran the converter for 6 months with no problems. The following mods and repairs were made, removed SLP headers put in longtubes, droped the transmission to replace the pump seal and install the transgo booster valve, had the computer reprogrammed to higher shift points, put in electric waterpump and installed xpipe kit. I was also wondering if anyone knows what exactly the transgo booster valve is supposed to do?
I have the same line pressure as before 120 PSI. Do you think I should try putting the stock booster valve back in?

Re: WOT 2-3 shift problems

The boost valve raises line pressure, but it cannot solve the higher rpm attempted shifts, as the volume & pressure starts to drop once you go past apx. 5,500 rpm. Changing the boost valves back to stock is not going to solve this. Trans-Go offers a high rpm ring & spring kit (good to 7,800 rpm) to solve this, but requires the removal of the transmission & front pump to install this.

Thanks for your reply, to fix this this for now could I just move my shift point back down to 5900 instead of 6100? Also, where is a good place to get the Trans-go high rpm ring and spring kit? And is this something I could install myself?

Re: WOT 2-3 shift problems

I did some driving around this weekend and I figured out that at WOT it shifts fine when in drive only. When I put it in 3 the 2-3 shift slips. I has anyone had this problem? Is my tranny going out? Another thing I have noticed is my trans temp is running about 20 to 30 degrees higher than normal.
