Is it worth converting a automatic 93 camaro z28 to a m6 since im keeping this car till I die? 6spd is one thing I would love to have and i enjoy them. Im just afraid it will some how mess up my car could anything happen when installing? Car has very very low mileage
Thanks

I would say yes unless you plan to race the car at the track on a regular basis. I have owned a few of the fbody's and finally bought a m6. I would never go back to a automatic strictly due to the fun factor for street driving that the m6 gives.

This is one thing that would be entirely up to you. I have a couple friends that won't have anything but a manual tranny. (They actually love the Muncie 4-speeds) Me personally, I like the auto's. As long as you pay close attention to what you are doing and do a lot of reading and research, you should be fine with the swap. Just keep in mind that there are a bunch of things to change besides just the actual transmissions themselves. Ie. the computers, extra pedal and linkages, consoles, and usually manual tranny's need a stronger rear end for support than auto's do, just to name a few. The days of a simple tranny swap are pretty much gone.

Do you have a source to support this? The M29 had a torque rating of 400 lb-ft. The Viper V10 is rated at 490 lb-ft (500 lb-ft in the 93 SRT10 version). The F-Body input shaft is 29 splines, the Viper input shaft is 31 splines. The Viper tranny is 1" longer than the F-Body T56. The Viper gears ratios exactly match the 94+ (MN6) version of the T56, with a 2.66:1 first gear. The M29 has a gearset that starts with a 2.97:1 first gear.

Summit racing has two different T56 trannys available for the LT1. Without first looking at Injuneers post, I believe the difference between the two is in the gear ratios.
Without any verification, I believe the 93 ratios were different because the only rear ratios availabe were 2.73 and 3.23 where the 94+ cars added a 3.42 ratio. I'd guess the final drive ratios would be the same using the 93 gear ratios and the 3.23 rear Vs the 94 ratios and the 3.42 rear. Again, just a guess...I didn't get the calculator our...
I second one posters view that the fun factor is a reason to have the manual transmission. Sure, the automatic is more consistant at the strip but an M6 car isn't awful once you learn how to launch......

If you'd like everything in a 'kit', try a salvage yard. Cleveland pick-a-part or Contemporary Corvette can hook you up...

It's up to you based on which transmission you prefer any how much more you prefer it.
I was going to convert my '94 Z28 to a manual, but after looking at the costs, I found a decent deal on a '97 Z28 M6 with 30k less miles for $500 more than what I ended up selling my '94 Z28 for.
So I paid $500 for a car with 30k less miles, that's 3 years newer and has the transmission I want. Course I sold that car later for my SS.
