will non lock up converter fit on lockup tranny?

The tranny i currently have is a non lockup and its fried. I got a freshly freshly rebuilt TH350 from a friend for free. Only problem is its a later model tranny with a lockup converter. I want to keep the current stall converter i have but i dont know if it will fit.

Usually when the tranny is fried, so is the converter. With a good converter, it's worth sending back to the manufacturer for a rebuild. If it's a low end converter, replace it.

Well im not exactly sure whats wrong with the old tranny. It was working great. Didnt have any sign of a problem. No slipping, no noise, wasnt getting hot. I parked the car one day, ten min later i go out to move it into the driveway and I have no forward gears just reverse. I was literally like you flipped a switch and first second and third were gone.

Lockup converters are only different internally and generally will fit each other.

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. What does the tranny fluid look like? I am still concerned that the converter is going to be a problem and will possibly screw up the new tranny.

I pulled the tranny on mon. The fluid looked like you just poured it in out new bottles. No discoloration or burnt smell at all. The trannys do have dif input shafts though. The one with the lockup has a little longer imput shaft and looks like dif splines. I havent had a chance to try putting the conv on the new one. I looked up the conv in a couple parts books i had laying around and this is what they both show. So I guess that answers my ?

130-20400 GM 1965-91 TH-400/425/375 (1), 1968-81 TH-350/375B (2)

(2) Will not fit lock-up converter or clutch converter models

How do I tell for sure what this other tranny I have is? The onlything I know is my buddy said it was a TH350 and he wasnt sure what is was out of?
