will a 12 bolt of out a 96 work on a 01?

i need a rearend, and there is a guy i know who sold his 96 lt1 but kept his rearend.

i was curious if the rearend is compatible and if so, what might i need to do the swap?
im sure the brake swap is alot more difficult, i was curoius if anyone knows what my chances are!

a moser 12 bolt with 33splines..yada yada and he only wants a $1000 for it, with almost no miles on it!

thanks in advance

it will work, but i'm pretty sure you'd either have to remove your abs/traction control, or remove the axles and have them machined for your 3 channel abs system

If you both do NOT have traction control. Or both DO have traction control then it's a direct swap.
The brakes are easy but it'll cost you new bearings and seals for the 12. You just have to take the axles out of both rears and swap your backing plates onto the 12. The rub is that you'll have to press the bearings off of the 12 to do this.
