Wierd vibration
Wierd vibration
recently put a new clutch and throwout bearing into my 84 firebird. Drove it easy for a bit to break it in, but now when I get it above 3,500-4000 rpms the whole car seems to vibrate. It only does it when it's in gear too. No idea what could be wrong. can anyone help? Also is there anyway to adjust the clutch pedal to add a little more resistance?

spun the driveshaft 180 degrees and it's still vibrating just as bad as before. any ideas on what else it could be or how I could fix it? Got this car to go fast, kick ***, and take names and i'm going insane not being able to get it above 3,500rpms. any help would be greatly appreciated

I'll be more detailed, don't know if this info will help or not. Never had this problem at all in any way with vibrations before I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Guy I bought the car from was a retard. Dropped the tranny and and found only 3 bolts holding it in, 2 being hand tight. Found only 3 bolts holding in the bell housing on the passenger side. Bought and replaced all the bolts needed. Put everything back together right, then got new tires the next day. Drove it easy for about a week, then went to get on it one day and the vibration was there. It's frustrating the hell outa me.

So it ONLY does it with the car in gear? Are you running a stock or aftermarket flywheel? Is your 355 internally or externally balanced in the rear? I would call the manufacturer of the clutch you bought and make sure that thing is neutrally balanced. I doubt that is the problem, but never hurts to be sure.
Does the vibration come at all speeds around those RPMs? If so, then your driveshaft is not to blame.
Sorry, I don't know much about the 3rd gen clutch, is it hydraulic? If so you could buy an adjustable master cylinder, or try bleeding your system.

Yeah it only does it when it's in gear and at about 3k rpms no matter what gear or speed. Don't know about the flywheel or the balance on the engine. Has a hydraulic clutch, but it worked fine before. The whole damn car shakes if I take it above 3k and feels like it loses power.
Just noticed today driving to the gym, when I press in the clutch there is still a slight vibration at 3k. But when I take it out of gear and let off the clutch there's none what so ever
It's not the driveshaft. If it were your driveshaft it would be vibrating whether it was in gear or not because the driveshaft is spinning as long as you are moving. I think you've got something amiss with your flywheel.
