Different tranny fluids change the noise a little too! Getting it rebuilt to the tight side of the bearing preload and endplay specs will also help a little. Both of you sound like the same problen ones just a little worse than the other. The shifter and stick selection will also play a role in the cabin noise.

UPDATE: When driving the car for a while and it warms up. If you put it in first gear w/ the clutch fully depressed it makes the same rattle noise (not as loud, but fairly loud). Doesnt do it in neutral tho. Maby this helps. I duno.

I have the same problem with my ford ranger, always have. It still works fine though and i've put alot of miles on it. I doubt it's anything to worry about.

Thanks for the help.
I found out some more scenarios in which is makes the noise, read carefully below:
I did some more tests today, If I moved the shifter to the outer right or outer left neutral positions (from the center position) with the clutch engaded and held it to either side I could hear the same noise, if I push the clutch in and do the same thing It cannot be heard. It can also be very faintly heard when the clutch is in and the car is in neutral, but if you pop the clutch while still in neutral you cant hear it anymore.

I got my trans rebuilt. A lot of stuff was messed up inside. But the inital noise I was talking about was prolly just a worn out t/o bearing and pilot.
