Why is my tranny shifting so HARD?????

Just about 20 minutes ago i noticed my A4 was shifting like a racing tranny. It shifts so hard from 1st to 2nd the tires let loose at about 2500 rpm. It just all of the sudden started shifting hard as crap, in every gear change but extremely hard in 1st to 2nd. I think it might be shifting so hard theres possiblity it could break something?? WTF is going on. I cant have something bad happen to it and not being able to drive it would just kill me. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY HELP???? PLEASE???

Errr... tranny wiring having problems???
I'm pretty sure the shifts are controlled electronically.
I know that your computer decides how hard to shift based on pressure or velocity in your intake, or something like that, you could always check that. I'd say it's either a sensor or wiring. I would hope for that anyway, it's a lot cheaper than fixing the mechanical parts...

Just checked fluid

Well i just checked the tranny fluid and couldnt really tell if it had fluid or if it was out. Although i mainly seen what looked like to be be little tiny air bubbles. All that was really on the dipstick was what looked like to be the same thing as when you drop a pepsi and it fizzes real bad. There was some fluid on the stick but it was really thin looking. Do you guys think i should have it serviced or am i wasting my money and need to start looking for a trans rebuild although i dont have the money for one. Oh well, guess ill just have to park her for a month or two. ****!!!!

Get it scanned. Certain DTCs will cause max line pressure and some other actions. You don't want to keep driving it this way, as it will result in more tranny problems. OBD-II transmission DTCs/actions are listed in this table from my Tech Page.

Scanned a P1870

well the computer scanned a P1870 and the oil change folks told my fluid was burnt. The tech page says a P1870 means the tranny is slipping. I cannot ***^*^ believe this!!!! WTF!! The tranny is acting fine today, not shifting hard at all, it did the shifting hard thing once before but quite. Last night was a second episode of it. OMG, what am i gonna do if i have to get a rebuild. I swear if i do i will never buy another A4 again. If the pros tell me that i am gonna have to a 2000 dollar rebuild im gonna trade it in on a 98 z while it is shifting ok. the dealer wont notice anything. I hope i dont have to do that though i love my car, its never let me down.

Well i did some searching and found out the P1870 means the tranny is basically fixing to blow. The only way to fix it is a valve job or a rebuild and the hard shifting i was feeling was from the tranny being in "fail safe mode." dammit this sucks. I cant figure it out, it shifts fine at WOT, doesnt slip(yet anywayz) and shifts at normal rpm if under light throttle. C'mon guys i need some INFO here. Please!!!!

Cheap, reliable, high power tranny rebuilds.

I had the same thing happen to mine and it was a loose wire connection to the force pump solenoid in the tranny.
