Just bought some 4.10s and had them installed, about $420.
brought the car some new life
AND I JUST GOT 23 MPG hot rodding

i used to get maybe 17 when i drove retarded

and YES i corrected the miles for the different gears so this i ACTUALLY got 23 MPG!!

 

So, you went up to a 4.10 & got better MPG? Usually you get slightly lower MPG w/ the 4.10. Maybe the speedo was off to begin with?

 

well they were almost all city miles and with the (numerically) higher gear the car basically idles up to 25 MPH. I think thats why, but i did buy new tires at the same time so maybe that contributed also, but i doubt it.

 

was thinking about upgrading my gears to 4.10 and i was wondering if i should replace the the 3 series carrier or is the stock one good. There is no know problems with mine. Also where did you get your gears from?

 

i got my gears from the local speed shop, i paid like $200. I didn't replace anything other than the gears and what the shop put in when they installed them. They whine but i dont really care, makes it feel like a race car. I would definately recommend doing it.
