Man I am not sure about manually shifting when you race? You can get a power programer that can inprove you a4 when on the strip! I manually shift my car when I am driving around town...like when I am somewhere that is like 25 MPH, I only go into 2nd gear. 35MPH to 60MPH I put it into 3RD. 60MPH+, I put it into OD. I change gears when at stop signs/lights though, if I know that I am going to go faster/slower.

Think about it, auto. transmissions get worse gas milage besause of it shifting up or down. When you don't need to shift...don't! Saves gas milage and saves your transmission!

Don't shift the 4L60E manually....There is a delay when you do it manually, therefore your shift points will be off, and it put way more wear on the internals. These computer controlled transmissions aren't like the old TH350s and 400s...your best bet is to add a shift kit (Transgo, etc..) and have the computer programmed to shift at your desired RPM....

A lot of guys say you shouldn't manually shift the 4L60E very often, or at all, but I think that everything "in moderation" is okay. I will occasionally shift the A4 manually, but it's normally at times like joSShua was describing, like if you're in traffic and not going very fast, then I'll hold the tranny in 1st or in 2nd gear so it's not upshifting and downshifting all the time. I've also tried it at the track, but because of the delay in the shift, it's hard to time it exactly right, so I've got the Hypertech tuner, and I just have it set to shift when I want............it's more accurate that way.

On a side note, how do you like having 4.10's with your A4?? That thing must haul *** off the line?! How about cruising around, what's it like out on the highway?
