Question Who has had a pressure plate come loose?

The car has a Spec Stage 2 in it with 14,000 miles on it. Flywheel was resurfaced at the time
Ok here are my symptoms:
1. Severe vibration around 2000 rpms whether in gear or not, clutch engaged or disengaged
2. More difficult to get into gear from a stop
3. Clutch does not grab as hard as it used to. Will not bark 2nd
4. Clutch seems to grab slightly higher in the pedal travel

Could the pressure plate have loosened up and cause these problems? If its not that does anyone else have an idea? Thanks

-Dan

I had this happen on a mustang, the insatller did not torque the pressure plate bolts.
Got to the point that you could not get complete disengagement.

Is it possible to tighten the pressure plate with the transmission still in the car? I really dread having to pull the tranny to do this.

Please xplain how you can tighten the pressure plate while still in the car, I assume you mean not having to pull the tranny. I dont see how.

Yeah I kinda realized that you couldnt right after I made the post. I was thinking of the access plate that is in between the starter and flywheel.

I've had similar symptoms in other cars; root cause turned out to be broken damping springs on the clutch disk.

Well as of right now the car is going to sit over the winter like this. I don't have the time or money to spend on it right now. Insurance is bad enough just on my Mustang. When I finally do get around to looking at it I'll probably just end up putting a new clutch in it anyway. No reason not to after going through all the trouble.
