Who has aftermarket gears in their 10B?
Who has aftermarket gears in their 10B?
I've been dancing around the idea of throwing a set of 3.73's in my 10B. I don't really abuse the rear, so I imagine them actually lasting till I can support the funds for a 12b. It occasionally sees some hard shifts. That stock 10b is stronger than people give it credit for. I've had this car for 4.5 years now and it's seen it's share of beatings, just no stickeys yet.
How has it been lasting for you? WHat else did you do as far as preventative maintenance? -Bearings?
Also, WHat is the normal U joint change interval for the drive shaft??
.. I'm @ 42k miles.

ummm you should probably get a steeper gear than 3.73. You have a m6.
Don't fear the gear.
and i'd suggest putting one of those t/a girdle kits on ur 10 bolt if you are going to be investing money in it.

^ Maybe 3.90's.. but this is a DD not a strictly trip car. I'm also leaning more twords a canyon carver.... as far as goals for the car. I was told 3.73's would be a great gear choice.
I have 3.43's now. I was wondering if stepping up that little bit would really make that big of a difference.

I've talked to a few people who are running 3.73's with a 6speed and they like them. No, they won't make as big a difference as a 4.10 but they will make a difference. I know "back in the day" 3rd gen Z's woke up pretty well swapping from the stock 3.42 to 3.73. Ya, it was a 700R4 but it is still a steeper gear and as such will net quicker acceleration.
This is a helpful tool to for your descision:

Thanks BTW to who ever first posted that calculator
My car is also daily driven and I'll take it on road trips so I really don't care to spin too many more RPMs.
3.73 adds about 200 more RPM
3.90 adds about 300 more
4.10 add about 650 more
I can live with 2-300 but 650.....no thanks. Plus the added bonus of the weaker ring of the 4.10. Again, no thanks.

that gives me an idea... That may add a bit of stress on the 10b w/ the 4.10's and all... 3.90's may be the idea...I found this also..
