Question Whinning squeaking coming from the rear?

When I was home on leave from where I am stationed, I bought a 98 SS M6 with 53k. The car has a short shifter and thats it. I put in the Jet performance skip shift eliminator. After I had the car for a few days and let my friend drive that owns a 94 Z28 A4 (Penz on here). We notice the whinning and the squeakin from the rear. Would it be the rear end already? The previous owner said he wasnt hard on it, but he did take it to the track once. My friend mentioned gettin the fluid changed and maybe that would fix it. But I didnt get to drive the car all that much since the short time being home but I think you hear the sound like when your turning but it could be all the time im not sure. Does anyone have any suggestion or idea what it could be. Any thing is welcome.
Thanx
