where to shift
where to shift
i have a 1993 z28 that i got 4 days ago. 194000 miles and auto 4l60. when im in drive and i stomp the gas it shifts at 5000rpm. does that sound right, and if i was racing someone where would i shift to get the best out of it. car is stock. im just curious because a friend of mine had a 94 and it seems like if i remember right it shifted at about 6200, could be wrong been a few years.
also when im turning and punch it sometimes its slow to pull both tires. is the posi wore out.

That's just the consistently of the stock auto. It was very hard for me to find the powerband with mine also. Sometime it hit other times it bogged or just shifted early. Made it impossible to roll race. Main reason I swapped it out for a six speed. Now, if you get a rebuild from one of the sponsers here with a vig 2800-3200 then that will fix it too.
Either way; $$$. If you shift it manually you will just wear it out imo.
With that mileage, I would just drive it and look for a engine and trans pull on ebay or craigs. Should be able to cut 100k miles off for not so much dough.

im hoping to get a 383 from golen engines around tax time this year. just wondering though i thought an lt1 shifting at 5000 was early. it pulls very hard at 5000 figured i could get some more rpm out of it
