Where to get built 6 speed/cluch?

Im tossing around the idea of a 6 speed converion..the car is auto now with a built 4l60E but i need something more with the new motor now.i was gonna do a th400 but the cost of having a gear vendor is a bittoo high and i figure after all is said and done doing the converion wouldnt be hard since im already gonna be doing the trans.

i dont have any numbers on the new motor yet but its a forged 355 with afr 210 heads with a 224/230 cam and a d1 or no2 is in the future and i need a tranny too handle atleast that.can anyone steer me in the right direction for a proven m6 and a clutch that i wont need to be replacing often?

either way im doing the driveshaft/shifter/tranny/tune anyway so pedals and a slave cylinder shouldnt be much worse :P

Street Twin

I have the street twin and hate it!! I know ill be bashed here about it. But since install ( all shims are in right and measured correctly) the clutch does not slip at all either on or off. and it burns up very time i drive it. Ive called mcloud and they told me it will get better as it brakes in. well 300 miles later still feels the same and peddle effort is getting worse for some reason.

anybody else with a street twin experience?

six speed inc has 4 different stage transmissions and they dont have a power rating of each stage on their site..anyone know which stage would fit my app.

Call them and ask them. I got the stage 4 and they told me it will hold up to 700 HP. You can also check into RAM clutches. I have their HDX and love it, but they also have the Powergrip and Powergrip HD that hold more power.

I did the swap on my 94. I built the M6 up myself. Parts from Autogear and Rockland Std Gear. Anyway, Mccleod single 7500 rpm disc and a pressure plate from any autoparts store. They are all the same now(LT4). No chatter and no slip after 4k miles. Only running street radials though. I think I am hitting close to 400rwhp. About $600 cheaper than a twin disc.

Btw, the only thing that is going to make the M6 stronger is a steel 3-4 fork upgrade and billet keys on all the syncos. That's what I did. The viper output shaft conversion is only for 700+ hp imo.

I have a few pics of the swap in my sig. Also wished I took more.

yea ive been emailing six speed and for some reason their hp rating for each stage is never stated.they just have on their site its warrantied for 700hp.she also said if i dont have a core i can only get the 2k stage 4 because then they supply the tranny.

im gonna talk to my engine builder to see if he can or knows someone who could rebuild a t56 that i could buy on craigslist or somethin than just do that fork and servo upgrade bc what ive heard theres not much that can go wrong with the t56 or any manual at that compared to the a4.

im def gonna look into those other clutches mentioned..i want to keep the car as "streetable" as possible.def nothing over 700hp and i want to keep it on pump gas for sure..i just dont know if the six speed inc tranny would be overkill for my application.i ll see what they say about the stage 4 rating.

I like Six Speeds Inc, good people to do business with. I had some problems with DHL, who ships their trannies, but that was DHL's fault. My brother got one from them too, and we are both very happy customers.

I'm not pushing much, just full bolt ons right now, never had it dynoed though. I'm planning an LE2 h/c/i right now, so I'll see how much my clutch holds up. I think I got it for like $350 from WS6 Store.

If you do go with Six Speeds Inc, make sure you get new bearings. And they do core exchanges, so there is less down time for your car.

I ran the Street Twin in my Formula for a couple years. It was extremely "streetable", the only difference over stock being maybe a 25% increase in pedal pressure. Actually bought it used from someone that ran it in a high HP 97 SS for several years, and I sold it to a third user who was happy with it. Properly installed and set up you should not have any problems with it.
